The association „Weilburg erinnert e. V.“ is committed to remembering the victims of the Nazi regime and promotes commemorative and educational work against racism and anti-Semitism. The focus is on historical and political education for all age groups in order to link remembrance work with current issues and strengthen democracy.

As has already taken place in previous years, further educational theater projects are planned in Weilmünster and Hadamar, in which students will develop plays about “euthanasia” victims. The special thing about this project is that the students themselves write the texts for their play.

Educational theater projects with young people: In memory of the Nazi murders in Hadamar and Weilmünster

For the students affected in Weilmünster and Hadamar, a suitable educational theater approach to the Nazi murders of the sick will be developed and implemented over the next few years.

The main aim of the project is to carry out educational theater projects with students as a part of school workshops. Under the direction of actors Crischa Ohler and Sief van der Linden from Theater mini-art e.V., the young people develop a play based on the biographies of “euthanasia” victims of the Hadamar killing center and Weilmünster starvation institution. The special thing about the project is that the end result is a play that contains texts written entirely by the students themselves.

It is unbelievable what happened there!

It’s great that there is a project like this and the opportunity to come to terms with the history on our doorstep.

Why we are committed to the project

What appeals to us about these projects is that the young people get to grips with the subject matter and at the same time get to know and experience the medium of theater in a holistic way. They also play a major role in the development of the play.
This form of discussion offers young people a unique opportunity to explore the topic in depth and contribute their own perspective. The combination of content-related discussion and creative expression makes this project a valuable experience that enriches the students on various levels and provides them important skills for their personal and professional future.

Outlook

The first play was performed in Weilmünster and Hadamar at the beginning of July 2024 by students from Weiltalschule Weilmünster. It was very impressive and moving to see how the young people had dealt with this dark chapter of the Nazi era and expressed this in front of an audience.
We are delighted to continue to help make this important project possible.
